How is a Brest Implant Surgery performed?

Before the procedure, your physician will discuss with you the desired size, feel, and appearance of your breasts. After considering all these aspects, your doctor will suggest the type of implant he believes suits your preference, also the available options for surgical techniques to place the implants. Your doctor might prescribe some medication before your surgery. Also, you might want to avoid some medication such as aspirin or similar drugs that causes the blood to thinner.

During the surgery, your surgeon may opt for local anesthesia, but in most cases, general anesthesia is applied, the surgery takes 1-2 hours. Your surgeon will choose an incision that suits your procedure based on the: size of the implant, and body anatomy. These are the 3 common incision areas to place implants:

  • Under the breast
  • Under the arm
  • Around the nipple

Next, your surgeon will separate the breast tissue from the muscle creating a pocket, your surgeon will place the empty implants and then fill them with saline solution, but if you opted for silicone implants, they are pre-filled with silicone gel and immediately placed. Once your implants are placed, your surgeon will suture the incision.

After the surgery, you will experience some sourness and swelling, which is normal at this stage. Follow your doctor's instructions regarding which activities to avoid especially physically demanding activities until your recovery is completed.
