Porcelain Veneers - 5 Facts You Need To Know

Porcelain veneers, also called dental veneers, are very thin ceramic cells that go over the front-facing side of the tooth. They can be manufactured from porcelain or resin composite materials. As there is no winner of the battle of porcelain veneers vs. composite veneers, the most preferred type of veneer is porcelain veneers. According to a recent study of The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) reports that porcelain dental veneers are increasing by 250% over the past five years. Another statistic by the AACD also shows that 99.7% of Americans believe a smile is an important social advantage and 75% of them think that an unattractive smile may potentially harm a person's chance for finding a job.
Porcelain veneers are used to fix a wide array of problems including:

Discolored teeth due to the root canal treatment, stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride or other causes.
- Teeth that are worn down.
- Chipped or broken teeth.
- Uneven, misaligned or odd-shaped teeth.
- The gaps between the teeth themselves.

To put a porcelain veneer in place, the dentist must remove about half of a millimeter of enamel from the surface of the tooth, which is roughly equal to the width of the veneer itself. The dentist will also use local anesthesia in order to numb the area and make the procedure more comfortable. After that, the dentist will create an impression or model of your tooth and then send it to a laboratory which will create the custom veneer. Once the dentist receives the veneer, he can safely plant it on the front of the tooth.

Porcelain veneers are used to fix any sort of dental imperfections from view, leaving you with a perfect smile. Did you ever admire the smile of a celebrity – that perfect smile? Those are porcelain veneers.

I'm glad you explained that porcelain veneers can be taken care of the same way you maintain the rest of your teeth. Ever since I stopped smoking last month, I have been looking for a way to brighten my smile for an upcoming job interview without having to worry about complicated cleaning routines. Perhaps dental veneers would be the best solution for my needs.

I had no idea that dental veneers are created to look exactly the same as the rest of your teeth no matter what kind of lighting they are exposed to. Now that my wife has decided to stop drinking coffee, she would like to cover her stained teeth with dental veneers before our daughter's wedding next week. Maybe she should consider seeing a dentist so that she can get her veneers installed quickly.
